Beyond the numbers: Humans and enthusiasts at the heart of early childhood in Quebec
Every morning, across Quebec, thousands of doors open to welcome what is most precious to us: our children. Behind these laughs, these games, and these fundamental learnings, there is you. At the beginning of this month of June, while the early childhood network regularly makes the headlines, we wanted to take a different look. A look focused not only on the structures, but on the humans who make the heart of our childcare settings beat.
We won't hide it: the news surrounding early childhood centers (CPEs) and family or subsidized daycares often speaks of "ratios," "waiting lists," or "budget negotiations." These are crucial realities, certainly. But what these technical terms sometimes forget to tell is the boundless creativity you need to reinvent an activity on a rainy morning, the infinite patience to comfort a deep sorrow, and that unique pride of seeing a toddler succeed in tying their shoes for the first time.
Carrying the Network on Your Shoulders With Heart
The daily life of educators is intense. Between managing the mental load and the deep desire to offer a safe and stimulating environment, the days pass at lightning speed. Currently, retention and staff shortages put a very real pressure on the shoulders of those who remain.
Yet, despite legislative storms or organizational challenges, the flame of the profession remains. Why? Because early childhood education is not a simple "babysitting" job. It is a vocation of human guidance, the very first pillar of our society. You are our children's first confidants, their guides, and their anchors outside the home.
A SPACE TO LISTEN TO YOU AND VALUE YOU
Recent discussions surrounding government budgets and the need to support children with special needs demonstrate one thing: Quebec is realizing that investing in early childhood means investing in our collective future. But to take care of our toddlers, it is imperative to start by taking care of those who help them grow.
A New Community That Reflects Who You Are
It is precisely for this reason that we chose to launch childcareemployment.ca. Our vision goes well beyond a simple job board. We wish to build a caring meeting space, a place where searching for a workplace does not come down to ticking boxes, but to finding a team that shares your human values, your pedagogical vision, and your sensitivity.
Finding an environment where you feel respected, supported, and valued should be the norm. Whether you are an experienced educator, a passionate professional, or a recent graduate full of fresh ideas, know that your role is indispensable.
For this very first edition of our news column, we simply wanted to say a big thank you. Thank you for your resilience, for your tenderness, and for every spark you ignite in our children's eyes.
